We reflect on the incredible dance journey that was [CAPTURE], presented by Tempo: Te Rerenga O Tere in partnership with Auckland Live. Let's take a stroll down memory lane and revisit the magic that unfolded from 12 - 21, October 2023.

Over six enchanting days, Aotea Square came alive with the rhythms of more than 61 dance films. The heart of Auckland pulsated with the energy of diverse dance stories, from the delicate intricacies of the insect world to reimagined love tales and the explosive narratives of volcanic eruptions.

[CAPTURE] was not just a showcase; it was a celebration of community. The public had the power to vote for the most exceptional freestyle dance talent in Aotearoa, bringing an interactive element to the digital brilliance on the big screen with 'Shadows.'

From laughter to deep reflection, each film offered a unique perspective. We were honoured to present a rich tapestry of artistic voices, showcasing the skills and flair of both seasoned artists and emerging talents.

Live Performances: Friday evenings were a dance extravaganza, featuring live performance activations. The 13th saw Projekt Team and Blob Collective engage in a public battle, while The New Zealand Dance Company took the stage on the 20th with a mesmerising live digital activation.

We paid tribute to the pioneers of dance film in a special session on the 20th, fondly referred to as the OG session. It was a nostalgic journey celebrating the trailblazers in the world of dance.

Between film sessions, Blob Collective's 'Shadows' kept the audience moving and playing on the dance mat, adding an extra layer of engagement to the entire experience.
