Significant Partnership Announcement

Remaining present and relevant in the arts has often been a challenging journey for dance creatives and organisations in Aotearoa, and never more so than on the back end of a global pandemic.

Over the years, NZDFT/Tempo has experienced times of clear navigation, bountiful kaimoana and balance with our environment. At other times our journey has been tempestuous and unpredictable, making navigation difficult and heavy.

It has been during these challenging times that our courage has been tested. This year we have altered our journey again by dreaming up new possibilities, new innovations and new pathways to sustain movement across the vast moana of creative potential.

As we map future pathways and explore new destinations across the dance ecology in Tāmaki Makaurau, we have begun to forge new partnerships with dance innovators across the motu that align in vision, heart and wairua.

Forming new partnerships with other dance innovators enables new, better resourced journeys to get underway.

Our first significant partnership for 2024 is with The New Zealand Dance Company (NZDC).

Artistic Director Moss Te Ururangi Patterson and his experienced team have been invited to curate and produce Tempo Dance Festival - Te Rerenga o Tere 2024 in a collaborative partnership with NZDFT.

We are excited to be on the journey towards Tempo 2024  with one of Aotearoa’s esteemed, respected and innovative dance leaders. We trust dance communities working in Tāmaki Makaurau will embark on this journey with us as we move forward in unity.Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. There are over 1.5 billion websites out there, but your story is what’s going to separate this one from the rest. If you read the words back and don’t hear your own voice in your head, that’s a good sign you still have more work to do.

It’s humbling to be asked to help curate such a wonderful festival that I have participated in many times over the years. In serving our community, I know our NZDC whānau will bring a great sense of aroha and manaaki to this kaitiaki role and I look forward to working alongside our artists, audiences and dance patrons to deliver a beautiful festival this year
